Founder's story

Why I Built A+ Educational Consulting

I knew I wanted to be an educator long before I understood what the word career meant. In first grade, I remember pasting little orange pumpkins on everything that began with the /p/ sound and feeling an unmistakable spark. Even then, I loved the magic of learning, the joy of discovery, and the deep responsibility that came with helping someone understand something new.

As a young teacher, that spark became a mission. I poured myself into my classroom planning, adjusting, reteaching, and trying again until every student truly learned what I was teaching. When something didn’t click for a student, I took it personally. Not because they had done something wrong, but because I believed deeply that it was my job to find the pathway that made learning accessible.

That belief eventually led me into school leadership. As a principal and later as an administrator, I had the privilege of impacting learning on a much larger scale. I saw student achievement grow, teachers flourish, and entire systems strengthen. But I also saw a truth that would change my career forever:

Teachers do not fail. Systems do.

Across districts, classrooms, and states, I kept seeing the same pattern—teachers working harder than ever, yet without the ongoing, job-embedded support they needed. One-off trainings weren’t enough. A binder on a shelf wasn’t enough. A “one-size-fits-all” PD day wasn’t enough.

Teachers deserved more.

They deserved professional learning that lives in the classroom—coaching, modeling, planning together, looking at student work, adjusting instruction, and building capacity that lasts far beyond a single training.

They deserved systems that make effective teaching possible, not harder.

And that is why I founded A+ Educational Consulting.

My work today is deeply rooted in the journey that began with a first-grade pumpkin craft:

  • a belief that all children can learn,
  • a commitment to giving teachers the tools and support they deserve, and
  • a mission to help schools build sustainable systems that drive real, lasting literacy achievement.

Every district, every teacher, and every student deserves instruction that works.
I am honored to partner with schools, across the country and internationally, to make that a reality.
